Simple Plan started out under the name of Reset and was formed by Pierre Bouvier, Philippe Jolicoeur, Charles-André “Chuck” Comeau and Adrian White. Reset supported bands such as MxPX and Ten Foot Pole during their tours across Canada and gained modest popularity in the late 90’s. Their debut album ‘No Worries’ was released in 1998, but Chuck Comeau left soon after to go to college. There he met Jean-François “Jeff” Stinco and Sébastien Lefebvre and they went on to form a band of their own. Reset, in the mean while, released their second album No Limits, but in late 1999, Pierre Bouvier left the band to join Comeau’s new project. The replacement singer for Bouvier, David Desrosiers, was asked to join as a bassist in Simple Plan six months after he was appointed lead singer for Reset. This provided Bouvier with the opportunity to concentrate on vocals, as Desrosiers would take up the bass guitar. Jeff Stinco now plays lead guitar, Sébastien Lefebvre plays rhythm guitar and provides back-up vocals and Chuck Comeau plays drums.

In 2002, Simple Plan released their debut album ‘No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls’, which spawned the singles ‘I’m Just a Kid’, ‘I’d Do Anything’, ‘Addicted’ and ‘Perfect’. The pop-punk record was recorded in the U.S. and contained extra songs in various re-releases and foreign editions. Guest musicians Mark Hoppus and Joel Madden provided vocals for the album. In 2002, Simple Plan played over three hundred shows and topped the Alternative New Artist Chart. In the next three years, Simple Plan would play the Warped Tour, both as a headliner and as a side act. In addition to headlining tours, they also supported Avril Lavigne, Green Day and Good Charlotte.

In 2004, Simple Plan released their second record ‘Still Not Getting Any...’, leading to the singles ‘Welcome to my Life’, ‘Shut Up’, ‘Untitled (How Could This Happen to Me?)’, ‘Crazy’ and ‘Perfect World’. The new record was aiming at more mature lyrics and a sound that would appeal to broader audiences. Simple Plan also released ‘MTV Hard Rock Live’, a live album containing songs from both ‘Still Not Getting Any...’ as well as ‘No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls’.

Simple Plan returned to the studio in 2007, recording their third album with producer Dave Fortman (Evanescence, Mudvayne). They played few shows that year, having recorded their first album in Los Angeles, Montreal and Miami. The final work was done in New York and as of October 21st, the new album was complete. Lyrics to the song ‘Generation’ were later re-recorded. The first single ‘When I’m Gone’ was released on October 29th. It was announced on November 29th that the CD release would be postponed to February 12th, 2008. Simple Plan played a promotional tour across the world in late 2007/early 2008, shows in the U.S. in February and March and have announced a European tour which will start at the end of March.
